Meet the scientists

Meet the scientists is a series of live web chats between BP scientists and secondary school students around the UK.

Meet the scientists is a series of web chats between BP scientists and secondary school students around the UK.

In 2014 we gave students the opportunity to quiz the scientists about the challenges and highlights of their everyday work, and to hear about what inspired them to choose their exciting careers.

  • David Eyton talked to students at Surbiton High about his role as Group Head of Technology at BP, the oil and gas industry and the Ultimate STEM Challenge competition.
  • Jenni Whitfield talked to students at Sirius Academy in Hull about her job as a Process Engineer on a North Sea oil platform.
  • Mark Sankey talked to students at Tiffin School in Kingston about his job as a Chemical Engineer, helping BP to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.

We've compiled all three web chats in a handy YouTube playlist for you to share with your students.

The BP Educational Service aims to give teachers science resources with real-world relevance and applications.

So we decided to team up with some real-world scientists and have them explain how science shaped their careers.
